Screen Australia pledges $30mn for interactive TV

Australia’s key funding body for the country’s TV production industry will invest AUD 30mn (US$ 31mn) over the next three years in interactive and multi-platform TV shows and games, as it seeks to foster local talent and combat job migration.

Of this total, AUD 12mn will be delivered in the first three months, including AUD 2-3mm for multi-platform drama production, AUD 6-8mn for games production and enterprise, and up to AUD 2.5mn for multi-platform documentaries.

“I’m delighted the industry consultation process has generated so many innovative ideas around the ways to foster interactive and multi-platform content,” said Minister for the Arts Simon Crean. “It will ensure the great local talent in the industry continues to have a competitive advantage.”

Fiona Cameron, COO of Screen Australia, added: “This suite of programs will encourage relationships across screen production sectors, acknowledging the similarities as well as the differences between games development and other screen production activity.”
